The literal meaning of Nuwara Eliya is 'the city of light'.
Nuwara Eliya is located in the central mountains at an altitude
of over 6000 feet. It is one of the premier hill resorts of
the country. Nuwara Eliya lies 180 km from Colombo and offers
some breathtaking views of valleys and mountains.
The Britishers developed the town of Nuwara Eliya as a replica
of British Town. Nuwara Eliya is renown for the quality tea
that is cultivated here. The town with its average temperature
of 10 degree offers relief from the hot climatic conditions
of Sri Lanka.
Nuwara Eliya overlooks Pidurutalagala, the highest peak of
